Just Go Walk!

I know, I know…

It’s cold outside. It gets dark too early. I get home too late. Yeah, yeah I tell myself the same excuses. The bottom line is, walking is one of the best exercises for your health. Walking stimulates you to take deep breathes and it increases your heart rate. Walking utilizes the large muscle groups in your legs and it you walk with good posture, your abdominal and back muscles are engaged as well. You see, you can walk virtually anywhere. Instead of trying to find the closest parking space to the door of the store, try parking towards the back of the parking lot and walking to the store entry. Instead of taking the elevator, walk up the stairs.

You’d be surprised that you don’t have to walk quickly to gain the benefits from walking. Just increase your normal pace to the point where talking becomes slightly labored. The goal is to walk 30 minutes per day. But you don’t have do it all at once. Break it up into 5-10 minutes episodes several times throughout the day.

Convincing yourself to go walk typically is the hardest part. Once you get started, you’ll feel empowered to keep going!

Come on, just try it! I’m sure you’ll feel better once you do.
